Electricity in Australia

The underlying design principle is that there is an amount of electrical power that is in constant demand, known as baseload. At night coal fired power stations “tick over” so a base lowest level is demanded, and such stations must keep running without stopping. When demand peaks during certain times of the day, such as in the morning when people wake-up and prepare to go to work or the evening when they return home and start operating appliances or plugging in their electric cars, utilities activate "peakers" or generators that sit idle most of the time so they can meet dynamic demand during these peak cycles. Managing these ever-changing loads is required to balance the utility's system, and peak cycles have always been difficult for utilities.

Coal fired power plants never lay idle because you want to keep them operating at their peak performance.

All decisions now moving forward are critical, as we are at that point, an irreversible process from here on. It’s going to be tough indeed, as the decision makers have a huge responsibility.

We can’t stop global trends, and we can’t stop solar PV becoming cheaper than carbon by 2025, as energy storage gets cheaper, and more sophisticated( blockchain).

Consumers and business become empowered, and we can’t stop that either. The demand for central commercial electricity generation will fall dramatically by year 2030.

Baseload by coal fired generators in our historical grid, now have many renewable power plants generating electricity from wind farms, solar PV farms, hydro, biomass, and numerous other smaller plants.

Pumped hydro has several thousand locations alone known today, where large volumes of water are raised by renewable power, then generated when needed. Biomass is another good generator using waste biomass, large batteries planned, more wind farms and solar PV farms.

Baseload power as above can be re-defined by year 2025, as these new planned systems come online, and BlockChain technology can manage even households and businesses as well, to satisfy baseload at night, along with peaks during the day. The whole system will change slowly and safely.

Energy storage beyong lithium batteries with hydrogen batteries, is as well worth mentioning separately.

Quantum computers and A.I.

The Quantum computer should enter a serious phase by year 2025. Simply put commercial and much more powerful units will be available by that time, and that is a bit of time considering the speed at which they are developing. If I have a normal computer that has 10,000 transitors for example only, to double the power I add another 10,000 transitors. In a Quantum computer if I had 10,000 qbits, and I added another 10,000 qbits, the power would go up by 2^10,000; that’s gigantic !. The “Good, the Bad and the Ugly”: Two thirds of our universe we will begin to see, and that will immediately impact on science like chemistry, where calculations so small will be able to be done for the first time. Medicine and bio-chemistry, material science, solid state physics are others. Artificial intelligence can machine learn one task well, in fact very well. A robot machine may do the washing but not the dishes. Multi-tasking not yet by some distance but, with Quantum computers an unknow...

History repeating - 1920s

In The Great Depression hundreds of millions of people suffered real deprivation. Their minds and behaviours were catastrophically affected by this serious situation. In desperation the masses sought leadership forward and they got Franco, Mussulini and Hitler. Their values were slowly morphed along the way, and Fascism took hold in a most dangerous way along with Nationalism. Hitler destroyed the unions and the socialists, and took particular aim at The Jews and forward communism. National socialism was a ploy and not Democratic Socialism. In the world today, many commentators have used immigration to describe the growth in nationalism throughout the world. When Trump was elected as The Republican candidate it was said, “Damage done”. Recently Anthony Albanese in Australia, indicated that poorer voters were not happy with what “they have” in their minds, which is their perception. The people affected amount to hundreds of millions of people in the free world, that can relate t...

COVID-19

Covid-19 as at August 2020 has spread globally awaiting a vaccine by December 2020. However whilst mutating to many virulent forms, Covid can also after many months mutate to a much milder form. A much milder form of Covid-19 may in fact become dominant over the existing and much more dangerous strains.  It would take another lengthy period of months before the dominant milder strain of the virus spreads  This could mean by June 2021 the virus will become like a normal flu, explaining how the 1918 pandemic slowly died out without a vaccine.
